So what is scrapbooking, and how did I become interested in it? If you've wondered what scrapbooking was, or how hard it is, you're in for a treat. There's nothing to it at all except for a little imagination, patience and time.

I consider scrapbooking an art form that anyone can do. It came about as a way to pass on history and simply to tell a story. While most stories are oral in nature, or perhaps written in books, scrapbook stories are centered around two senses, sight and touch.

Scrapbooks are filled with almost any item you can think of, ranging from pictures, postcards, fabric, paper, old notes, natural materials an as I said just about anything. One common misconception about scrapbooking is that you are building a photo album. This just isn't true. Scrapbooking captures the essence of the person who made it, as well as the story it tells. While it's possible to fill an entire page by simply placing one picture on it, scrapbooking tends to be more involved.

A Special Scrapbook

Now that you have an idea about what scrapbooking is, I thought I would give a quick summary of a scrapbooks I made for an important events in my life, my wedding.

My Wedding Scrapbook

In my wedding scrapbook I have placed copies of my pictures. They span a year of memories from the pictures at the restaurant where my husband and I got engaged to, the engagement party and bridal shower, to the wedding and reception to the honeymoon. While the pictures capture the visual memories I will keep for the rest of my life I have added many other items that are important. I've created a short list of examples:

The card from the jeweler wishing us well, the matchbox lid from the restaurant where my husband proposed, the ribbon I had in my hair that night, the newspaper announcement from our local paper, the wedding invitations, a note from our pastor, wrapping paper pieces from our gifts to each other, the champagne label from our honeymoon suite, the airline ticket stubs, plastic hotel key and some confetti from the church steps.

As you can see, the materials I added invoke many more memories than pictures could alone.
